Job description

Kennedys is looking for an experienced Assistant Claims Manager to join our growing Claims Handling team.

This role offers an excellent combination of hands-on technical claims handling, team supervision and stakeholder management, making it particularly suited to an experienced Senior Claims Handler or existing Assistant Claims Manager looking for their next move.

Working as part of a specialist claims function, you will handle and provide oversight on complex claims across a varied portfolio, which includes areas such as Professional Indemnity, Financial Lines and Warranty & Indemnity.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of complex insurance claims from notification through to settlement or conclusion.
  • Review policy coverage, liability and quantum and develop appropriate claims strategies.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to claims handlers within the team.
  • Assist with the supervision and allocation of claims and workloads.
  • Review reserves and ensure claims are progressed proactively and commercially.
  • Provide clear, commercially focused reports and recommendations.
  • Support quality assurance and help ensure claims are managed consistently and in line with agreed service standards.
  • Develop strong working relationships with insurers, brokers, insureds, lawyers, experts and other stakeholders.
  • Support the Claims Manager with the ongoing management and development of the team.
  • Identify complex or sensitive issues and ensure they are escalated appropriately.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong experience of end-to-end insurance claims handling.
  • Experience dealing with technically complex claims.
  • Knowledge of Professional Indemnity, Financial Lines, Warranty & Indemnity or another specialist insurance line would be particularly valuable.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring more junior claims handlers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the confidence to manage competing priorities.
  • A commercial and pragmatic approach to claims resolution.

For someone looking to move beyond a purely claims-handling role, this position offers a great opportunity to develop further leadership, technical oversight and stakeholder-management experience while remaining close to the technical work.
