About Promethean

Promethean is scaling a new class of materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), with the potential to transform the efficient capture, storage, and separation of industrial gases, in applications like biogas upgrading, industrial dehumidification, and carbon capture.

As we continue to move from pilot-scale production to industrial manufacturing, we are looking for an experienced Senior Process Engineer to help continue the development of safe, reliable, and scalable manufacturing operations.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in the growth of a novel chemical manufacturing business, solve challenging engineering problems, and help develop the next generation of engineers.

The Role

You will work across the various scales of Promethean's manufacturing facilities, supporting day-to-day production, plant improvement activities, equipment projects, and manufacturing scale-up.

This is a hands-on manufacturing role within a small, but growing, engineering team.

This is not an office-based, project management, or design-only position. We are looking for an engineer who enjoys working directly with plant, equipment, operators, and improving the safety, quality, productivity, and economics of manufacturing processes.

You will be expected to spend significant time in the plant, supporting manufacturing campaigns, troubleshooting equipment and processes, commissioning new systems, and helping ensure product is manufactured safely, efficiently, and consistently.

Alongside your technical responsibilities, you will play an important role in developing junior engineers through coaching, mentoring, and day-to-day support.

Key Responsibilities

Manufacturing & Operations

• Support and improve pilot-scale and commercial manufacturing operations
  
• Run and support manufacturing campaigns
  
• Troubleshoot process, equipment, and operational issues
  
• Work closely with operators, technicians and engineers to ensure safe and efficient production
  
• Drive improvements in plant reliability, productivity, yield, and product quality
  
• Monitor process performance and identify opportunities for improvement
  

Process Engineering & Continuous Improvement

• Lead process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives
  
• Investigate plant issues and implement practical, sustainable solutions
  
• Conduct root cause analysis and drive corrective and preventive actions
  
• Develop and improve operating procedures, standards, and engineering documentation
  
• Support process safety activities including risk assessments, SOP development, and hazard reviews
  
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, operational efficiency, and manufacturing robustness
  

Projects & Scale-Up

• Support the transfer of new processes from R&D into manufacturing
  
• Specify, design, and implement plant modifications and equipment upgrades
  
• Lead equipment installation, commissioning, and start-up activities
  
• Support the development of manufacturing systems required for future scale-up
  
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver engineering projects successfully
  

Team Development

• Coach and mentor junior engineers through practical day-to-day engineering activities
  
• Provide technical guidance and support across manufacturing and engineering teams
  
• Review engineering work and share best practice
  
• Help develop an engineering culture built around safety, ownership, problem-solving, and continuous improvement
  

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with practical manufacturing experience.

You will likely have:

• A degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
  
• 8+ years of experience in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, or industrial operations
  
• Experience operating, troubleshooting, and improving chemical manufacturing processes
  
• A strong understanding of process safety and risk management principles
  
• Experience delivering plant modifications, commissioning activities, or process improvement projects
  
• Experience working within regulated or safety-critical industrial environments
  
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  
• Experience coaching, mentoring, or developing early-career engineers, technicians, or operators
  
• Chartered Engineer status, whilst not a pre-requisite, will be a significant advantage for this role.

After a year, you are a trusted senior engineer within the business.

You have delivered measurable improvements to plant safety, reliability, productivity, and manufacturing performance. You are helping run manufacturing operations successfully, have led key engineering improvements and projects, and are recognised as a source of practical technical expertise.

Junior engineers are developing faster because of your support and mentorship. Most importantly, you have helped build a safer, more reliable, and more scalable manufacturing operation capable of supporting Promethean's future growth.
