The Design Team

Proton's Design team shapes the visual and interaction layer across Mail, Drive, VPN, Pass, and Calendar — products used by millions of people, many of whom rely on them in high-stakes moments. We work at the intersection of security and simplicity: our products must inspire trust without feeling intimidating, and feel refined without sacrificing clarity. Designers are embedded within engineering teams and involved from the very beginning — problem framing, planning, implementation, and quality assurance — not brought in at the mockup stage. The team is organized as a guild: high autonomy, shared standards, and real influence over how design is practiced across Proton.

We hold a high craft bar. Typography, layout, spacing, color, iconography, motion — the details most companies treat as polish, we treat as the product. If your best work is the work itself — pixels you're proud to sign — you'll be in good company here.

The role

Growth at Proton works differently. We don’t sell user data, optimize for clicks at any cost, or use dark patterns. We track as little as possible and design growth around trust.

For us, growth means helping millions of people take back control of their digital lives. Every sign-up is someone choosing privacy, and every upgrade helps fund an internet that doesn’t depend on surveillance. That makes growth harder - but also far more meaningful.

As our Senior Product Designer for Growth, you’ll shape the moments that turn interest into trust and trust into long-term adoption: how people discover Proton, understand its value, get started, and bring more of their digital life into the ecosystem.

You’ll work closely with Growth Product Managers and Engineering as a true co-owner of the roadmap, shaping the problems we pursue, the bets we make, and how we measure success. You’ll ensure that every growth experience - from first impression to upgrade and expansion - feels as thoughtful, clear, and trustworthy as the products themselves.

What you'll do

• Own the key growth moments across Mail and Calendar, including sign-up, onboarding, activation, upgrade, and cross-product adoption.
• Set a high visual bar for growth experiences, using precise typography, layout, color, and hierarchy to make onboarding and upgrade moments feel polished and premium.
• Design upsell and checkout flows, plan comparisons, and upgrade prompts that feel helpful rather than pushy.
• Use motion and micro-interactions thoughtfully to guide attention, clarify interactions, and communicate value.
• Partner closely with Product Managers to shape the growth roadmap: framing problems, sizing opportunities, and deciding which bets to make.
• Co-own experiments with Product Managers and Data, from defining hypotheses and success metrics to test design, analysis, and deciding what to do next.
• Maintain a high level of craft while moving quickly; even an experiment variant should be something you’d be proud to ship.
• Make growth patterns reusable by contributing components and guidelines to the design system, so experiments can ship quickly while staying consistent and on-brand.
• Bring the user perspective into prioritization, and advocate for experience quality when conversion goals create tension with the user experience.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of experience designing and shipping digital products with strong visual craft.
• A portfolio showing polished UI and work on growth, onboarding, or monetization.
• A sharp eye for typography, spacing, color, and iconography.
• Strong visual communication skills, with the ability to create visual elements for product experiences. A background in graphic design / visual communication is a plus.
• Experience with motion and micro-interactions in product UI.
• Experience partnering closely with Product Managers on strategy and roadmap.
• Experience running A/B tests or other product experiments and using results to make decisions.
• Experience building and evolving design systems.
• Strong Figma skills and experience using AI tools to explore ideas, create variants, or prototype faster.
• Good judgment about the line between persuasion and manipulation.

Nice to have

• Experience working on products with multiple apps or a broader product ecosystem.
• Strong illustration or icon design skills.
• Experience prototyping motion or interaction concepts.
• Experience working in a fast-moving experimentation or growth team.
• Familiarity with privacy-focused products or designing with strong ethical constraints.

  Paris: 49,000 - 90,000 EUR gross annually*
  Other locations: Compensation will be discussed during the interview process
  *Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, skills, and previous experience
