Senior Server Engineer

This is a new opportunity for an experienced Server Engineer to join a team of dedicated IT professionals delivering a new and exciting IT platform into our customer’s environment. Working on site as part of a delivery team, you’ll take responsibility for the delivery, integration and support of a major IT system, working across VMware, Dell infrastructure and Microsoft technologies.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll work as part of a medium-sized delivery team, taking ownership of technical tasks and helping to ensure solutions are delivered to the required quality, budget and timescales. Responsibilities include:

• Working on and leading tasks to ensure the delivered solution follows defined design processes, governance procedures and through-life processes

• Delivering business-as-usual, integration, support and development tasks across the current and new platforms

• Deploying, integrating and supporting VMware environments, including VCF, vSphere, automation, vSAN and NSX

• Working with Dell infrastructure, including PowerFlex, PowerScale and PowerProtect hardware

• Supporting Microsoft Server technologies alongside client and collaboration tooling such as SharePoint and Exchange

• Troubleshooting complex systems and resolving implementation and integration issues across multiple platforms and technologies

• Supporting secured enterprise infrastructure and applying appropriate security requirements throughout delivery

• Producing clear, comprehensive technical documentation to support delivery, governance and through-life support

• Keeping abreast of industry trends and advancements, while promoting technical and engineering excellence and building strong relationships with peers

What You’ll Bring

• Demonstrable in-depth experience as a Server Engineer within complex enterprise environments

• Strong technical capability across:

• o VMware, including VCF, vSphere, automation, vSAN and NSX

• o Hyper-V

• o Dell hardware, including PowerFlex, PowerScale and PowerProtect

• o Microsoft Server experience

• o Microsoft client and collaboration tooling, including SharePoint and Exchange

• o Systems integration, with an appreciation of networking requirements for hybrid cloud infrastructure

• A sound technical understanding of security requirements and experience deploying and supporting secured enterprise infrastructure

• Excellent troubleshooting skills with experience diagnosing complex, multi-platform systems

• Highly organised, with exceptional time and personal management skills

• Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce high-quality technical documentation

• Comfortable working within a medium-sized team, building relationships with peers and adapting to evolving technologies and industry trends

Knowledge, Skills and Experience - Desired

• Knowledge and experience of automation and software-defined systems

• Knowledge of JSP 453, JSP 604 and JSP 440, together with associated guidance and policy

• Experience of working within a demanding customer environment
