This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and career-driven individual to join our Stowmarket Regional Office as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. Working alongside experienced commercial and surveying professionals, you will support the commercial and financial management of construction and maintenance projects while developing the core skills required for a successful career in quantity surveying.
You will complete a structured five-year training programme, combining practical workplace experience with day-release study towards a BSc in Quantity Surveying. You will receive ongoing mentoring and guidance from the Senior Quantity Surveyor and wider Commercial Team throughout the programme.

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:

Support the commercial and financial management of medium to large construction and maintenance projects.
Assist with the preparation and processing of subcontractor applications, valuations, invoices and payment applications.
Review subcontractor timesheets, dayworks, variations and supporting commercial evidence.
Support the preparation and submission of client quotations, cost breakdowns and professional quotation packs.
Assist with raising purchase orders and goods received notes, ensuring costs remain aligned with agreed budgets.
Help track client instructions, variations and changes in scope, maintaining accurate supporting records.
Support cost tracking, forecasting, monthly cost value reconciliations, sales accruals and cost accruals.
Assist with the procurement and commercial management of suppliers and subcontractors, including issuing enquiries and obtaining quotations.
Prepare completion packs for finished works, including handover documentation and photographic evidence.
Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation across company systems and network drives.
Update the Jobtrack CAFM system with job statuses, completion notes and evidence of completed works.
Liaise with operational teams, suppliers and subcontractors to gather information and prevent commercial delays.
Support the preparation and justification of commercial claims and assist with resolving aged debt.
Assist with reviewing contract terms, monitoring compliance, identifying risks and recognising commercial opportunities.
Provide documentation and administrative support for audits, internal reviews and client meetings.
Complete ongoing internal e-learning and participate fully in Freedom’s structured training and development programme.
Promote Freedom’s safety-first approach throughout all project and commercial activities.

What we’re looking for:

A minimum of two A Levels, or an equivalent qualification.
At least four GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics and English.
A motivated, organised and career-driven individual with a genuine interest in quantity surveying and the construction industry.
A willingness to study, learn and take a methodical approach to personal and professional development.
The ability to attend a five-year day-release training programme during academic term time.
The ability to travel to the relevant education provider, which is currently expected to be Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, although alternative locations may be available.
A willingness to complete an internal structured training programme alongside the formal degree programme.
Good communication, organisation and numerical skills.
A professional approach when handling confidential and commercially sensitive information.
Competence in Microsoft Office applications, with a willingness to learn Freedom’s commercial and project management systems.
