Job description
As an Assistant Project Manager, requires you to update and manage existing project plans, documentation, processes, and procedures to contribute to the successful delivery of projects under direction of senior team members. Coordinate and review resources and collect information or undertake research as required.
They are also required to provide support to one or more Project Manager by taking responsibility for specific tasks. On occasion they will be given total responsibility for small projects dependent upon their skills, experience, and progress in role.
Roles & responsibilities:
- Application of professional concepts and theoretical knowledge acquired through specialised training and/or considerable “on the job” experience. The individual must be able to exercise independent judgement within defined parameters. Identify solutions to issues that are generally defined (but not always immediately evident) and require problem - solving.
- Responsible for their own growth and development through structured learning and access to training tools and materials. They must demonstrate drive and determination in developing their knowledge through learning and experience.
- Manage their own deliverables with some face-to-face contact and interaction with the clients, whilst working within a team under supervision to ensure appropriate input and output.
- Application of problem solving and analytical skills to support the resolution of project issues. Strong interpersonal skills are also required to build relationships with clients and key stakeholders. The individual must also demonstrate and develop broad knowledge and perspectives which enable the pulling together of varying elements into a coherent strategic view.
Credentials
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (project management and/or construction related) or a non-cognate subject or relevant work experience.
Obtain relevant Qualifications, e.g., Higher Level of Education
Working towards Professional Membership, i.e., APM, RICS etc.
Gain additional Accreditation, e.g., CSCS, NEBOSH, SMSTS, PTS
Active participation in Voluntary Commitments, e.g., Mentoring, STEM support
Experience & background:
May have experience in project management, another professional service and/or a fundamental knowledge of construction and industries and understanding of programme, scheduling, procurement, and reporting.
Experience in one or more of the following sectors - Public Sector, Private Sector, Multi-Industry, Large Scale Complex Projects
Experience working on projects and programmes throughout multiple stages of lifecycle delivery
Have experience in more than one Project Role performed, e.g., Contractor, Client, EA
Experience working in a Programme or Portfolio Oversight capacity
Experience in managing various Contract Types, e.g., NEC 3, NEC 4, JCT, NRT

Budgeting and cost control (applicable to projects not programmes/portfolios) - The ability to develop and agree budgets for projects, and to control forecast and actual costs against the budgets.
Risk, opportunity, and issue management - The ability to identify and monitor risks (threats and opportunities), to plan and implement responses to those risks, and respond to other issues that affect a project
Quality management - The ability to develop, maintain and apply quality management processes for a project’s activities and outputs.
Consolidated planning - The ability to consolidate and document the fundamental components of a project: scope; schedule; resources, budgets; risks, opportunities, and issues; and quality.
Governance arrangements - The ability to establish and maintain governance structures that define clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities for governance and delivery of projects, and that align with organisational practice.
Stakeholder and communications management - The ability to manage stakeholders, taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests.
Reviews - The ability to establish and manage reviews at appropriate points, during and after projects, which will inform governance of the projects, by providing evaluations of progress, methodologies, and continuing relevance.
Change control - The ability to establish protocols to alter the scope of projects, implementing the protocols when necessary, and updating configuration documentation including contracts to develop, maintain and apply quality management processes for project activities and outputs.
Business case - The ability to prepare, gain approval of, refine and update business cases that justify the initiation and/or continuation of projects in terms of benefits, costs, and risks

- Support senior project managers in developing and maintaining project schedules.
- Assist with budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Coordinate communication between clients, design teams, and subcontractors.
- Prepare and update project documentation, including progress reports and meeting minutes.

- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- 1–3 years of experience supporting construction or consultancy projects.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and MS Office suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic understanding of construction contracts and procurement processes.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high‑quality work.
- Willingness to learn and develop a career in the built environment sector.
